Long story short, Square Enix started using the Unreal Engine for the Kingdom Hearts series starting Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, the very short game with Aqua as its protagonist. He most notably explained why Square Enix decided to go with Epic Games Store. Soon after the announcement that the Kingdom Hearts series is coming to PC through an Epic Games Store exclusivity deal, Square Enix on Twitter shared a new message from series producer Ichiro Hazama.
